SKETCHES 2019–22

Figures built entirely out of circles. Thousands of thin ellipses in amber and gold on black, laid over each other until a body, a vessel or a standing form surfaces out of the interference.

Nothing is filled. There is no mass anywhere in these, only line density, which is why they read as light rather than as objects. Some are captioned as blueprints for things that might exist somewhere; others are plain composition studies, lettering and geometry, one circle one square one line.

It is the hand from the ink drawings moved onto a screen and handed a compass. The same instinct, start with one mark and let it accrete, running at machine accuracy.
