VISITOR

The one who has just come in, and everyone who was already there

Close on the lower half of the sheet: five small seated figures scattered across a heavy gold-speckled ground, one on a low platform, one on a chair, one with an arm lifted, and one much larger figure at the bottom left with its back turned
The whole sheet: a low dark horizon of spires and masts, a darkening sky above with pale flecks falling through it, and the seated figures below
The whole sheet, horizon and all.

A low horizon runs across the middle of the sheet — a row of spires and masts against a sky that darkens almost to black in the corner. Pale spots fall through it like snow, or sparks.

The same sheet framed under glass on a white wall at the exhibition
Framed. Espronceda, Barcelona, November 2020.

Below the horizon the ground is nearly empty. A handful of small figures sit far apart on it: one on a low platform, one on a chair, one with an arm lifted. They have been there a while.

At the bottom left, close to the front and several times their size, one more figure stands with its back turned, half sunk into the ground it is standing on. It is the only one that has just arrived.

Another gold-speckled area of the same work: dark shapes scattered across it, a long boat form, a hooked bar and a ring of small marks
Another part of the same work.

Shown framed under glass at Espronceda, Barcelona, in November 2020, alongside works made across several years.
